The Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks engaged in a massive trade last season.
The biggest players involved were Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis between the two sides. However, there was a third team involved as well.
It was the Utah Jazz, as they helped facilitate the trade by essentially becoming a dumping ground for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks.
Aside from sending Davis, Max Christie, and the 2029 first-round pick, the Lakers also sent multiple assets to the Jazz.
To be precise, it was Jalen Hood-Schifino and a 2025 second-round pick. Additionally, the Mavericks also sent a 2025 second-round pick to the Jazz.
Speaking of the move, it seems fans have already forgotten Hood-Schifino’s involvement in the blockbuster trade.
After all, the Jazz didn’t waste much time before deciding to waive the former 17th overall pick from the 2023 NBA Draft.
While JHS wasn’t a lottery pick, being drafted as the 17th overall pick is still high enough for an NBA team to take a chance on the prospect.
However, following an abysmal 23-game run with the Lakers, it seems like Hood-Schifino’s stock has tanked below revival.
He averaged just 1.7 points, 0.6 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game for the Lakers. Sure, he signed a two-way deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, averaging 7.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game in 13 appearances.
But at 22 years old, the shooting guard remains a free agent with little to no interest from teams around the league.
This just proves that playing for the Purple and Gold is a double-edged sword. After all, failing in front of arguably the most passionate fanbase in the league has essentially led to an early NBA exit for him.
