The Golden State Warriors Future Doesn’t Look So Great

The chokehold that the Warriors used to have on the NBA is over, and many dark years of losing basketball might be on the horizon. Golden State had it all at one point. Two of the best shooters to ever play the game in Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. One of the greatest scorers in history in Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green who did all the little things, was the ultimate winner. Klay and KD both went their separate ways, and all that’s left is Steph and Dray with a deteriorating roster around them.

How The Warriors Got To This Point

The player development with their draft selections has been very questionable. Although, James Wiseman appeared to be a great prospect and a promising building block to rejuvenate the veteran players, it’s hard to say that was the right choice in hindsight. He just didn’t seem to fit what Golden State was trying to do, and he couldn’t stay healthy, which is very unfortunate for both sides. Then, it was the Jonathan Kuminga situation. He showed so much potential, and looked like he was going to take over after Curry retired, but after head coach Steve Kerr, Kuminga didn’t see eye to eye, he was cut from the rotation until they finally found a trade parter for him.

Another vital piece to this team that was cut short was the departure of Jordan Poole. Poole was huge for the Warriors in their title run in 2022. He played a major role off the bench, and when he did start in place of Curry, he looked phenomenal. Tensions rose in practice one day, things were being said, and a punch from his own teammate, Draymond Green, was thrown. He finished that year out in Golden State, but you could tell that whole situation between the two players never really settled, and it became awkward for the entire Warriors team.

End Of Warriors Rant

With all this being said, the Warriors don’t really have good, young pieces to build around. They have aging stars in Curry, Draymond, and Jimmy Butler, who is currently dealing with a torn ACL. From the outside, this team looks stuck in the mud. They want to push for one last run with Curry still playing amazingly, but it just doesn’t look likely with the way this roster is set up. If they really want to win one more with Curry on the team, we would expect them to try to go out this offseason to get a big name player who can help them win right now. Someone like Giannis, but do they have the pieces to do so?
