The New York Knicks first title defense since 1973 hasn’t gotten off to a great start. But -- thanks to 27 points and 20 rebounds from Karl-Anthony Towns -- they have a win in the 2026-27 campaign. 

After losing three straight games to open the season, the defending NBA champions finally got a notch in the win column with a 111-97 victory over the Detroit Pistons. 

Towns led the NBA with 56 double-doubles in 2025-26 and is off to a perfect start in that regard, recording four in four tries on the young year. With plenty of noise surrounding his future in the Big Apple as his contract runs out this year, Towns is continuing to show why a team (whether the Knicks or someone else) will likely pay top-dollar for his services even as he turns 31 in November.
