Happy 61st birthday to one-time NBA All-Star, 1987-88 Rookie of the Year, and 1996-97 assists champion, Mark Jackson!
Jackson was a first-round pick of the New York Knicks in the 1987 NBA Draft out of St. John’s, and he immediately contributed with 13.6 points and 10.6 assists-per-game with 80 starts as a rookie. He made his lone All-Star appearance the next year (1988), averaging a career-high 16.9 points-per-game for a Knicks squad that lost in the Eastern Conference Semifinals against Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.
Jackson played 17 total seasons in his career, leading the NBA in assists-per-game with 11.4 in 1996-97 in his time between the Nuggets and Pacers. Following his playing career, Jackson has spent time both on the sidelines as a coach for the Golden State Warriors and as an NBA color commentator.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. How many of the players to average the most assists-per-game in each NBA season can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
