The three most exciting Phoenix Suns players to watch, featuring a breakout candidate

The Phoenix Suns will look a lot different this season with Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal gone.

The Suns’ big three experiment failed and as a result the team made some major changes to its roster.

The Suns traded Durant in a blockbuster deal to the Houston Rockets and Beal agreed to a buyout with Phoenix, later signing with the Los Angeles Clippers.

With expectations lowered for this season, the Suns won’t have the same amount of pressure as seasons past, which could be a good thing for them.

Ryan Dunn

With Durant and Beal gone, that means there will be more opportunities on this roster and suddenly Ryan Dunn has a chance to become an impactful 3-and-D wing.

Dunn adapted the 3-and-D role early last season and shot it extremely well from deep to begin his career. He started the 2024-25 season shooting 44 percent from three-point range, and he shot over 35 percent two more months after that.

While his three-point shot did eventually come down to 31.1 percent for the season, his on and off ball defense only improved.

If Dunn can become a consistent three-point shooter while being a key defender on the floor, he will carve out an impactful two-way role.

Devin Booker

Devin Booker is going into his 11th season with the Suns.

The Suns signed Booker to a two-year, $145 million maximum contract extension through the 2029-30 season this past summer.

Booker averaged 25.6 points, 7.1 assists and 4.1 rebounds while shooting 46 percent from the floor during a disappointing 2024-25 season for the Suns.

Booker will be the Suns’ main option at point guard again, a role that he thrived in last season. He will also be asked to be the main scorer on the team, which could lead to his best statistical season as a pro.

While people aren’t circling the Suns as a playoff team this season, Booker could help drag them to a play-in spot and cement himself as a top player in the league.

Jalen Green

One player who is poised for a breakout year is Jalen Green. Green was the main piece the Suns got back in the Durant deal.

At just 23-years-old, Green has a lot to prove. He has shown flashes of brilliance, but hasn’t been able to be consistent enough to be labeled a star.

Green finished the 2024–25 regular season averaging 21.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while playing all 82 games.

He had a breakout moment when he scored 38 points in Game 2 in a first round playoff series against the Golden State Warriors. However, he then struggled mightily for the rest of the series.

When Green is in attack mode he is tough to stop. He can find his shot in transition and dominate off the pick-and-roll game. When he goes downhill and is aggressive he will be a handful to deal with along with Booker.

His defense is a work in progress and he needs to take better shots. However, he will be one of the main guys in Phoenix which could help take his game to another level.
