Chet Holmgren and the Oklahoma City Thunder are in a bit of a slump of late. After starting the NBA season with a 24-1 record, the defending champions have suddenly lost two out of their last three games. This includes Friday’s 112-107 loss to Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves, where Holmgren logged 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting, five rebounds and two blocks in 25 minutes of action.
The Thunder will be looking to bounce back on Monday when they return to action for a home game against the Memphis Grizzlies. Holmgren, however, has popped up on the injury report and is in danger of sitting out.
Holmgren, who missed four games earlier this season, is now dealing with a back issue. The Thunder have listed him on the injury report ahead of Monday’s contest, announcing that the 23-year-old is officially questionable to play against Memphis with back spasms.
It is worth noting that it’s the first night of a back-to-back set for OKC, with a matchup against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs scheduled for Tuesday. As such, it would not be a surprise if the Thunder opt to hold Holmgren out on Monday night.
Big man Isaiah Hartenstein has been ruled out against the Grizzlies with right soleus soreness. Jaylin Williams is also out with right heel bursitis, while Alex Caruso (right middle finger sprain) is considered questionable to play.
The Thunder enter Monday’s game with a 25-3 record, which remains the best record in the entire NBA.
Holmgren, now in his fourth year with the Thunder (he missed his first year due to injury), is averaging 18.7 points on 57.2% shooting, 7.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 triples in 28.7 minutes per contest.
