The Oklahoma City Thunder have had a quiet offseason thus far as they continue to celebrate their championship.
Of course, the Thunder were the best team in the NBA last season as they finished with the best record during the regular season.
They then made a dominant run through the playoffs en route to winning the championship, though they were tested by the Indiana Pacers during the NBA Finals as the series went seven games.
After their championship, the Thunder entered the offseason with not having many holes to fill in their lineup and they have made no additions in free agency thus far because of it.
Oklahoma City did re-sign both Jaylin Williams and Ajay Mitchell during the start of free agency and they also signed Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren to new max extensions with Jalen Williams expected to also be extended at some point this offseason.
Despite their lack of moves in free agency thus far, Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz gave the Thunder a B free agency grade.
“The champs have been relatively quiet this offseason, and deservedly so,” Swartz wrote. “With a full 15-man roster already and with no major weaknesses, this summer is going to be more about celebrating and less about free agency.”
Swartz makes a great point about the Thunder having basically no major weaknesses on their roster, which is a key reason, along with them already having a full 15-man roster, why they have not made many moves this summer.
Of course, the Thunder’s core has turned into arguably the best young core in the NBA led by Shai, Williams and Holmgren and they are already built to compete for a another championship next season as they try to become the first team to win back-to-back title since the Golden State Warriors.
