Thunder Sign Nuggets RFA Spencer Jones To Offer Sheet

A couple of weeks ago, Jones posted a video on social media that he was fielding offers from rival teams. He became a restricted free agent when Denver extended a $2.65MM qualifying offer.

A rash of injuries in Denver enabled Jones to enter the rotation last season, and he responded by averaging 5.5 PPG and 3.3 RPG while shooting 39.6% from long distance in 64 games (22.7 MPG). Jones made 37 starts last season after appearing in 20 games off the bench as an undrafted rookie in 2024/25.

According to our roster count, the Thunder has an open spot on the 15-man roster. However, it’s interesting that they would offer Jones a contract after spending most of the month shedding salary to get under the second tax apron. The Thunder have enough room to use the $6.1MM taxpayer mid-level exception to sign Jones to the offer sheet, Spotrac contributor Keith Smith tweets.

It could be viewed as some gamesmanship between Western Conference rivals, as the Nuggets have apron concerns of their own. The Nuggets also have another prominent restricted free agent, Peyton Watson, who remains unsigned, further complicating their decision on whether to retain Jones.
