Micah Peavy didn’t have to wait long for another NBA opportunity.
The former Pelicans wing has agreed to a two-way contract with the Thunder, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The agreement comes four days after the Grizzlies waived Peavy and Walter Clayton Jr. while trimming their standard roster to the 15-player limit.
Peavy, 25, was selected by the Wizards with the No. 40 overall pick in the 2025 draft, then traded to the Pelicans. He signed his rookie contract with New Orleans that July and spent his first NBA season with the franchise.
One of his better nights came April 7, when he scored a career-high 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting in a 156-137 victory over the Jazz.
His stay with the Grizzlies was considerably shorter. Memphis acquired Peavy alongside Jordan Hawkins in a September trade that sent Taj Gibson and AJ Johnson to New Orleans. A little more than a month later, Peavy was back on the market.
Now he gets a chance to stick with Oklahoma City. A two-way agreement gives the Thunder an opportunity to evaluate him while allowing Peavy to continue developing in the G League.
Before entering the NBA, Peavy played at Texas Tech, TCU and Georgetown, earning first-team All-Big East honors in his final college season.
He has already experienced the less glamorous side of the NBA business, with two trades and a waiver since draft night. The next assignment is to give the Thunder a reason to keep him around.
