Thunder’s Luguentz Dort Makes Bold Prediction For Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Luguentz Dort believes point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander can become one of the best players in NBA history.

Over the last two seasons, Gilgeous-Alexander has played like an elite superstar for the Thunder.

Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.0 blocks last season while shooting 51.0% overall, 34.5% from 3 and 90.5% from the foul line. He made his first All-Star team and was selected to the All-NBA First Team.

This season, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 30.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 2.8 steals and 0.8 blocks while shooting 53.8% from the field, 32.5% from beyond the arc and 91.4% from the free-throw line. The Thunder are 17-8. They are in second place in the Western Conference standings.

Gilgeous-Alexander is fourth in the NBA in total points, fourth in points per game, 17th in total assists, 15th in assists per game, first in total steals, first in steals per game and third in player efficiency rating.

The Thunder are well on their way to making the playoffs this season for the first time since 2020. Gilgeous-Alexander is one of the top players in the NBA and OKC has surrounded him with a solid core of Dort, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, Josh Giddey and Isaiah Joe.

The Los Angeles Clippers traded Gilgeous-Alexander and multiple draft picks to the Thunder for Paul George in 2019. The Clippers, with George and Kawhi Leonard leading the way, haven’t made the NBA Finals yet. Meanwhile, the Thunder have a very bright future with Gilgeous-Alexander leading the way.
