Timberwolves Coach Assigns Blame to Anthony Edwards After Warriors Game

Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch was not happy with Anthony Edwards' performance in their Game 1 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night.

The Timberwolves trailed by as many as 23 points in the contest before losing 99-88. Golden State lost Steph Curry in the second quarter due to an injury, but still, Minnesota was outclassed from start to finish.

Edwards struggled mightily despite finishing with 23 points on 9-of-22 shooting. He only had one point in the first half, as the Timberwolves ended up 13 points behind the Dubs.

In his postgame press conference, Finch was critical of Edwards' performance, noting in multiple instances that the superstar guard needs to be better. He also emphasized that it's on Ant-Man to be the "leader" and to "set the tone" for the team.

"It starts with Ant, I thought he struggled early, and then you could just kinda see the light go out for a while," Finch said when asked about the team mentally checking out in the game.

"I think it was one of those games where he kinda came out with a predetermined mindset of what he was trying to do."

Anthony Edwards still led the team in scoring, but his slow start definitely didn't help Minnesota and had the team playing catch-up throughout the contest. In the end, they simply couldn't get out of the hole they had dug themselves.

It remains to be seen if Edwards will be able to bounce back in Game 2, but plenty of eyes will be on the three-time All-Star to see how he responds to Chris Finch's message.
