LaMelo Ball is officially coming to the Land of 10,000 Lakes. The huge four-team trade that saw the Minnesota Timberwolves acquire LaMelo Ball from the Charlotte Hornets has been finalized at long last, allowing for the franchise and fan base alike to wax poetic. The Wolves dropped a new hype video centering around the incoming point guard, which will only increase anticipation for their new backcourt.

The welcome package includes extremely flattering soundbites from ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins, Brian Windhorst and Stephen A. Smith. Minnesota emphasized the value that Ball can add via his playmaking skills and driving ability, but the team also made sure to include a healthy dose of Anthony Edwards.

This is not strictly about the impact one singular star can make. The selling point is a dynamic duo who can unlock the offense and dominate opponents when it matters most. Only time will tell if the Timberwolves’ roster makeover sticks, but the NBA-watching world is definitely eager to see the results.

Despite boasting a wealth of athleticism and impressive court vision, Ball is a wild card. The 2022 All-Star has a tendency to force shots and play erratically, causing many to wonder if he could lead a franchise. He was undoubtedly an important part of the Hornets’ only two winning seasons in the last decade, but Charlotte did not believe the 24-year-old fit its long-term vision.

Minnesota was not content with its core, either, as it traded Julius Randle and Naz Reid. The LaMelo Ball blockbuster brings both excitement and apprehension, as fans cautiously trust president of basketball operations Tim Connelly to assemble a roster that can advance to the NBA Finals for the first time in Timberwolves history. If he is wrong, the squad could plunge into a precarious position.

Needless to say, the Wolves’ future heavily relies on the outcome of this trade. Ball averaged 20.8 points, 7.3 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals while shooting 41.8 percent from the field and 36.5 percent from 3-point range during his Hornets career. He will try to reach his potential alongside Anthony Edwards, and if he succeeds, the squad should accomplish the same.
