With a 103-96 win on their home floor Wednesday night, the Timberwolves slammed the door on the Lakers, sealing a 4-1 series victory.
This is now the second consecutive year that the Timberwolves have advanced past the first round of the playoffs.
However, Game 5 wasn’t just another playoff elimination, it marked a milestone for Minnesota’s young star.
At only 23 years old, Anthony Edwards became the first player in NBA history to lead his team in scoring in multiple series wins over former multi-time MVPs.
He did it first against Nikola Jokić in 2024 and did it against LeBron James in 2025.
Timberwolves PR announced the news on Thursday, with stats provided by OptaSTATS.

Rudy Gobert dominated Game 5 with 27 points and a franchise-playoff record 24 rebounds, lifting Minnesota past a high-octane Lakers backcourt of LeBron James (22 points) and Luka Dončić (28).
That rebounding edge (54-37) proved decisive, as the Wolves overcame a cold shooting night from Edwards, who still managed just 15 points.
Yet it was Edwards’s heroics in Game 4 that truly swung the series, dropping 43 points in a comeback win.
Edwards’s playoff resume already includes a series-clinching showing over Nikola Jokić’s Denver Nuggets in 2024.
Over 16 playoff contests in 2024, Edwards averaged 27.6 points, 7 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
His regular-season ascent has been equally striking.
Edwards put up a career-best 27.6 points per game in 2024–25, earning his third consecutive All-Star nod.
Now, Minnesota turns its attention to the Western Conference semifinals, where the Wolves will meet either the Golden State Warriors or the Houston Rockets.
