With the sale of the Minnesota Timberwolves finalized, Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore are assuming their positions. However, they will not interfere with whatever team president Tim Connelly has planned for the 2025 offseason.
The lack of interference will be beneficial for the Timberwolves, as other teams have struggled when their owners have meddled in their affairs. Mat Ishbia is a good example, as he was ambitious but probably did it too abruptly.
The Timberwolves will have a big 2025 offseason, as they need reinforcements. The team is stacked with talents like superstar Anthony Edwards. However, the team needs more help, which was evident during their loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Minnesota might have made it to two consecutive Western Conference Finals, but that is a sign that they need to make changes to the roster and improve it to the point that they can be competitive against the other top contenders.
While Rodriguez and Lore are now in charge as owners, they do not want to take away from whatever Connelly is doing. The team president has free rein to do anything, as they look to compete against the best teams.
Now that Connelly's Kevin Durant plan failed, it is time for him to explore the market. The Timberwolves have glaring needs, like a new point guard or depth in the frontcourt.
They would love to re-sign all three of their free agents, Julius Randle, Naz Reid, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. They can give them the money in the extensions, but they must spend more, which will involve Rodriguez and Lore.

"Let’s make it very clear. Marc and I are not making basketball decisions. What we’ve learned is some of the best governors throughout sports, they spend most of their time in the front end hiring the right people," Rodriguez said to The Athletic. "We give them guidelines, we give them budgets, and then Tim can cook. And then we stay out of his way. That’s also really important
No matter what happens, the owners will not control and dictate what happens within the team. They know they can trust Connelly because he has built a Finals contender with this team.
Now that Connelly has a clear pathway for the Timberwolves, he must make some big improvements with the team. He is tasked to help the team, and the owners trust him to do so.
It will be challenging, but the market is wide open. Teams have already made trades, so the Timberwolves can make some big moves in the NBA Draft, free agency market, and in trades.

The team should have their eyes opened because the potential is there and opportunities are waiting for them in the market. They are close, and trusting Connelly to build the team and lead them to some of the greatest successes the franchise has ever seen.
