Timberwolves Star Announces Decision on Retirement After Loss to Thunder
Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

On Wednesday night, the Minnesota Timberwolves suffered a blowout loss at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder. With this loss, their season has come to an end in the conference finals for the second year in a row.

Despite coming up short on an NBA Finals appearance once again, there is a lot to look forward to about Minnesota's future, especially as star Anthony Edwards continues to develop. However, even so, they will have quite a few decisions to make this offseason that could impact their championship window.

One key Timberwolves player to keep an eye on is veteran point guard Mike Conley, who just finished his 18th season in the NBA. Following the loss, Conley has reportedly made a decision on whether he will retire or continue his playing career.

Though he has been in the league for nearly two decades, the Arkansas native just finished his third season in Minnesota. Since joining the team, Conley has been a crucial part of the team's success both on and off the court. Fortunately for the Timberwolves, Conley will return for another season (h/t Marc J. Spears of Andscape).

“My body is good,” said Conley. “I could still move, do what I need to do. Sacrifices of the team. I won’t be retiring because I can’t move or anything like that. When the time is done, it will be over with.”

Conley is making his presence felt in Minnesota, but he may be best known for his time with the Memphis Grizzlies. From 2007 to 2019, the Ohio State alum was a key player for the Grizzlies and was a big part of their "Grit and Grind" style. Conley remains one of the best players in franchise history and was one of the top two-way point guards in the league in his prime.

The 37-year-old still has a lot left in the tank, even if his best days are behind him. As the Timberwolves aim to make it back to the conference finals and get over the hump, it appears that Conley will stick around for at least one more season to help them achieve their goal.
