With the FIBA EuroBasket tournament scheduled to start on August 27, fans will be excited to see some of the best players in the world competing for a championship. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic are among the headlining talents taking part in the tournament.
Nevertheless, there's more than just the superstars in attendance to be excited about. EuroBasket will also be a great opportunity to look at some of the young and upcoming European talent and how they handle larger roles than what we've seen from them in the NBA so far.
Here are the top five young European players to watch once the tournament gets underway.
5. Nikola Topic | Oklahoma City Thunder
Topic spent last season on the sidelines recovering from a knee injury he suffered ahead of the 2024 NBA Draft. However, he's earned a spot on Serbia's roster for the tournament.
Topic could struggle for playing time, as he will be behind Vasilije Micic, Aleksa Avramovic, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Marko Guduric on the depth chart. Still, he's viewed as a high-level young prospect and could announce himself with some big showings throughout the tournament.
4. Adem Bona | Philadelphia 76ers
Bona showcased his athleticism and explosiveness during his 42 outings for the Sixers last season. He will head into the new NBA campaign behind Joel Embiid and potentially Andre Drummond on the depth chart.
Furthermore, he will be behind Alperen Sengun in Turkey's rotation. Nevertheless, Bona clearly has some untapped potential and exciting upside. So, if he's given enough minutes to prove himself, don't be shocked if he produces some big performances.
3. Mario Saint-Supery | Gonzaga
Saint-Supery is the only non-NBA player on this list. The impressive guard is scheduled to join up with Gonzaga next season, where he will likely try to build his reputation ahead of entering the NBA draft, either next summer or in the coming years.
Saint-Supery is highly skilled, with a knack for weaving through the lane and finishing through contact or via tough angles. While he won't jump out of the gym, his ability to control the tempo of a game could help him stand out.
2. Alex Sarr | Washington Wizards
Sarr will likely be the starting big man for the French national team, courtesy of Victor Wembanyama's absence from the roster. The Washington Wizards center is heading into EuroBasket after some promising signs during his debut season.
In 67 outings for the Wizards last season, Sarr averaged 13 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists. However, he must show more polish in terms of his finishing, and that will be something worth watching throughout the tournament.
1. Zaccharie Risacher | Atlanta Hawks
Risacher could genuinely be a breakout star of the EuroBasket tournament. He went from strength to strength throughout his debut NBA season and will be one of Spain's most entertaining players.
If he's given a role that allows him to showcase his skills, his production likely won't be too far behind some of the bigger stars in the tournament.
