Toronto Raptors Big Man Under Investigation Over Gambling Links, Fans Are in Shock

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN first broke the news, noting that Porter is “out of the lineup and a subject of an NBA investigation into irregularities on prop betting involving him.”

The prop betting in question happened in games during January 26 against the Los Angeles Clippers and on March 20 against the Phoenix Suns. It was revealed that there are some suspicions on Porter during the Clips showdown because of the “increased betting interest on the under for Porter props.”

The under for the Raptors youngster was set at 5.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists, as well as 0.5 on 3-pointers. He finished the game with three rebounds and one assists without attempting a triple or even scoring, hitting all the props. It’s worth noting that Porter played just four minutes before leaving the game due to eye injury.

“The next day, as part of a daily report to users on betting results, DraftKings Sportsbook reported that the under on Porter’s 3-pointers was the biggest money winner for bettors of any NBA player props from games that evening,” Woj furthered on the report.

Meanwhile, in the Suns game, Porter’s props were at 7.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. Once again, he left the game–this time due to an illness–and finished with two rebounds while failing to scorer in three minutes of play.

In a statement to ESPN, a league spokesman only said that they are “looking into it.”

Ssure enough, many fans are just shocked over the latest report. While an investigation is ongoing, many couldn’t help but note that it could be a career-ruining moment for Porter.

The 24-year-old is still establishing himself as an NBA player, and to get involved in gambling which is prohibited for all players and league employees, is certainly a bad look.

“If true he might’ve ruined his career man,” a commenter said. Another one wrote, “Oh crap that’s a huge uh-oh moment.”

Others couldn’t help but criticize Porter, as well as the league especially amid their promotion of gambling.

“Incredible how every day I move further and further down the list of dumbest gamblers ever,” a critic said. A fourth fan warned, “This is just one of many betting scandals that will happen in the NBA. Get ready.”

More details about the issue should come out once the NBA concludes their investigation. Sure enough, plenty of eyes will be on it.
