Toronto Raptors sign head coach Nick Nurse to multiyear contract extension

The Toronto Raptors confirmed on Tuesday that they have come to terms on a multiyear extension with reigning Coach of the Year Nick Nurse.

Toronto didn't disclose the exact terms of the deal. Nurse, 53, was set to be out of contract after the 2020-21 campaign, so it's believed his new agreement attaches him to the club through at least the 2022-23 season.

The Raptors promoted Nurse from his role as assistant to head coach in June 2018 to succeed Dwane Casey, whom Toronto fired after it fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs. In his first season as the man in charge, Nurse guided the Raptors to an NBA Finals victory over the Golden State Warriors.

Toronto finished the 2019-20 regular season at 53-19 and behind only the Milwaukee Bucks in the overall league standings. The Raptors fell to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals and were eliminated from the postseason on Friday.

Nurse has a 111-43 regular-season record with Toronto.
