It’s been over a week since the Boston Celtics were eliminated by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the playoffs, but they still seem to be a topic of discussion. That reason is because of Tracy McGrady, who dropped some news regarding Jaylen Brown shortly following their elimination that may have caught many by surprise.
“[Jaylen Brown’s] frustration lies deeply within the organization… There’s just been a lot of stuff that I’ve been hearing, just going on with the Boston [Celtics] organization, with JB,” McGrady said on the Cousins podcast.
That comment led to Brad Stevens speaking out about a conversation he had with Brown, and Brown himself also had to go out of his way to clear up any rumors.
About a week later, McGrady walked back his comments regarding Brown, saying that he never talked to the Celtics’ star.
“Tracy McGrady says on NBC that his comments about Jaylen Brown’s ‘frustrations’ with the Celtics were made as an analyst, not based on any conversation he’s had with Brown since the end of the season,” Ben Rohrbach of Yahoo Sports wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
A lot of people thought that McGrady had exclusively talked to Brown when he originally made those comments, and now he’s been looked at sideways for what he said. McGrady should know that people were going to take his words and make them a big deal, but it’s good that he cleared things up.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Brown rumors continued throughout the offseason, but the Celtics don’t seem to have any plans of moving on from him. With the season that he had this past year, they should be excited to see what he and Jayson Tatum can do next season when they are both healthy to start.
