The New York Knicks have been quiet heading into the NBA Draft, but that could all change.
Quite clearly the New York Knicks‘ top objective right now is to hire a new coach, and work is ongoing to interview candidates.
But with the NBA Draft and free agency imminent, the Knicks cannot sit back, and there is activity ongoing that they are at least the recipient of, if not the orchestrators.
Two players have reportedly arisen in discussions, despite their importance to the team.
The New York Knicks traded for Mikal Bridges exactly one year ago, striking a deal with the Brooklyn Nets.
Stefan Bondy of the New York Post reports this now makes Bridges available for an extension, which is set to be expensive.
He wrote: “Mikal Bridges is now eligible to sign an extension. The max is 4 years, $156 million.”

This led to reporter Frank Isola claiming that the expensive outlay has led to discussions involving possible trades with Mikal Bridges, and teammate Mitchell Robinson.
It is unclear whether this is about teams making inquiries over the pair – or the Knicks trying to find a market.
Isola posted: “One of the reasons Mikal Bridges’ name has surfaced in trade discussions, according to several team executives. Mitchell Robinson is another player being discussed.”
The Knicks refused to engage in the trade battle to land Kevin Durant, rejecting the possibility of bringing him on board.
Former player JR Smith believes the Knicks’ focus must be on adding bench depth around their talented core. And this would not involve trading away Bridges, or Robinson.
Most importantly, these decisions should not be taken without a new head coach in place.
It is right for New York to field offers and listen to the market, to make informed decisions, but they must put their new coach in a position to win.
