Tyrese Haliburton makes heartbreaking Kobe Bryant admission

Tyrese Haliburton put everything on the line in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

He was dealing with a calf injury and was clearly limited, but he still decided to give it a go, knowing that it might be his only chance to win an NBA championship.

Unfortunately, his hot start to the game was short-lived. He fell with a non-contact injury, and everybody around him feared the worst.

Now, looking back on that moment, Haliburton admitted that he tried to leave the court on his own power like Kobe Bryant did in 2013.

“I was on the ground. I was like, ‘Let me walk,'” Haliburton said on 'The Pat McAfee Show'. “‘Kobe walked. I’m walking.’ So when I got up and went to take a step, there was no chance. I was like, ‘Don’t touch me, I’m gonna walk.’ When I went to move my leg, it’s like dead weight at the end of your leg."

The Indiana Pacers star gushed about Kobe's mental toughness, as he already knew what he went through at the time.

"So the fact that Kobe shot a free throw and walked off is unbelievable," Haliburton said. "It’s unbelievable. Certain guys have walked off, but when I went to take a step, that’s when the guys threw the towel over me because my face was just like (shocked). I couldn’t believe what was actually happening in the moment.”

Bryant was just a different type of athlete. He was 34 years old when he tore his Achilles. And to watch him get up, sink those free throws, and limp his way into the tunnel was an example of his unmatched determination.

Hopefully, Haliburton will not only bounce back from this major injury but also get another chance to hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy.
