Tyrese Haliburton reveals health issue behind weight gain

Speaking in a clip shared via the Pat McAfee Show, Haliburton opened up about the challenges he has been dealing with in recent weeks.

He said, “I’m going in eight weeks of shingles right now, face shingles. I haven’t been able to get rid of it. I’ve switched my meds like three times and I’ve got a Botox injection. None of it has helped.”

Managing something like shingles, especially over an extended period, can have a significant impact on both physical condition and overall performance.

It also explains why his routine has been disrupted, particularly at a time when professional athletes typically rely on consistency in training and recovery.

By sharing those details, Haliburton provided a clearer picture of what has been happening behind the scenes.

Haliburton also addressed the online reaction, acknowledging how the situation has played out publicly while explaining the side effects he has been dealing with.

He added, “And the new meds, a side of effect of the meds is that I’m always hungry and weight gain. So, it’s making me gain weight. … Now, they are killing me on social media. I’ve seen I have been called Tyrese Haliburger.”

The explanation directly connects his weight gain to the medication, offering context that had been missing from much of the online discussion. Increased appetite and weight changes are known side effects of certain treatments, particularly when managing ongoing conditions.

At the same time, his comments show an awareness of how quickly narratives can form on social media, often without full information.

While the nickname may have gained traction online, Haliburton’s response reframes the situation, shifting the focus from jokes to the reality of what he has been dealing with physically.
