The Philadelphia 76ers and Tyrese Maxey are putting up points, but the team still has a gap to close.

“The room that we have to grow and get better is a big gap,” Maxey said, via NBA on ESPN, acknowledging the work the team still needs to do this season.

Tyrese Maxey is doing his part. Now, the 76ers need to make sure the rest of the team keeps up.

Maxey has emerged as one of the league’s amazing guards, capable of scoring from all three levels and putting up constant pressure on opposing defense. His shot-making and speed give the Philadelphia a reliable offensive weapon, but one player can only do so much.

The 76ers have already shown flashes of what they can be this season. However, their 106-93 home loss to the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, exposed a problem they need to address: scoring talent alone will not be enough to keep them competitive against the league’s best teams.

The challenge goes beyond putting up numbers for Maxey. The 76ers need more consistency from its supporting members, improvement in execution, better ball movement when their offense slows down. When defense make Maxey work for every shot, the Sixers must have other options they can trust.

For Philadelphia, Joel Embiid’s availability will also be crucial. Embiid playing at his best can draw defensive attention and ease the burden on Maxey. Getting both stars to produce together remains an important part of the team’s growth.

For the 76ers, the challenge is not getting more points from Tyrese. It is building a team that can sustain its offense, respond to adversity and compete against the league’s best.
