The Utah Utes basketball squad has finally found their program's leader in the coming years. After a tumultuous year with Coach Josh Eilert, the Big 12 Conference team will be turned over to a new head coach - Alex Jensen.
It took quite a fair amount of time for the Utah basketball squad to settle on who they wanted to steer their ship back into national championship contention. This eventual decision to hire Coach Alex Jensen was not an overtime decision. So, what deal did they land on?
Utah reportedly offered Coach Jensen an annual percentage yield that's north of $4 million, per Steve Bartle of KSL Sports. This will likely give him earnings that are way higher than most Big 12 conference coaches.
A lot of changes need to be made in order for Utah to become one of the perennial NBA player factories in college basketball again. Because, the current Big 12 conference standings say that this squad is one of the most mediocre squads in the land.
As of the moment, they are 11th in the Big 12 with no hopes of climbing back up to the top of the standings. Utah has also only won one game on the road despite having nine away clashes.
The silver lining is that Coach Jensen is likely going to inherit a fairly talented roster. After all, the Utes do have 16 wins under their belt and could even push it up to 17 if they do great against the BYU Cougars.
There is still a chance that they could make it to the NCAA Tournament and have a great time at March Madness. But, that would mean that Utah will have to beat out national championship-caliber teams like the Houston Cougars or Texas Tech Red Raiders to win the Big 12 Tournament.
