Victor Wembanyama quiets critics in second Summer League outing

Maybe one game wasn't enough to judge San Antonio Spurs No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama.

Following a less-than-stellar Summer League debut earlier in the week, Wembanyama silenced the critics in his second outing Sunday against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Wembanyama showed off his insane skillset throughout the night, wowing the crowd by dominating on the break, under the boards and in space.

The 7-foot-4 big man finished with a game-high 27 points, shooting 64% from the field (9-of-14) and 50% from three (2-of-4). Meanwhile, Wembanyama pulled down 12 rebounds, including eight on the defensive end, while adding three blocks.

After Wembanyama's big night, Spurs coach Matt Nielsen said the 19-year-old showed "a little bit of confidence" Sunday following his rough debut. Nielsen admitted that Wembanyama might have been fighting himself on Friday but noticed the difference against the Trail Blazers.

"He's a skillful basketball player who's working it out," Nielsen said via Duane Rankin of azcentral.com.

After Wembanyama scored only nine points Friday against the Charlotte Hornets, pundits quickly emerged to cast doubt on the hype surrounding the Spurs' great French hope.

However, after his bounce back Sunday, those looking for another opportunity to analyze Wembanyama will likely have to wait until the preseason.

Nielsen told reporters he wasn't sure if Wembanyama would play another Summer League game, and the 19-year-old himself sounded like he was looking ahead to training camp. Following an insane few months, Wembanyama said he was going to "disappear" for a while.

"I need to sit down with the Spurs to know what the next months are going to be like - when to go vacation, when to start back working out, where I'm going to work out," Wembanyama said via Carolina Teague of SB Nation.
