The championship was slipping away from the Spurs until Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle stepped up. The team needed a win at any cost, and they delivered when it mattered the most.

Wembanyama (22) and Castle (21) became the first pair of teammates aged 22 or younger to score 20 or more points each in a Finals game. They achieved this in Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals.

Their total combined score was 55 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists. The Spurs secured a 115-111 victory, and the series now stands 2-1, still in favor of the Knicks.

Wemby finished the game with 32 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, while shooting 11-for-18 from the floor. He scored 9 points in the 1st quarter and reached the 20-point mark before halftime.

Castle scored 18 points by halftime to keep the Spurs offense on top. He finished the game with 23 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and one block on 8-for-14 shooting.

It was the first Finals win for this young Spurs group. It also marked their first road Finals win at Madison Square Garden in 27 years. The victory finally ended the Knicks’ 13-game playoff winning streak.

But the bigger story may be what this specific game says about the direction of the series moving forward.

Spurs’ Young Core Flips the Pressure Back on New York

New York failed to sustain their offensive momentum after the break. They shot 45.5% overall from the floor and 35.1% from three-point range. The team also committed 13 turnovers. Towns finished with just 11 points and 8 rebounds.

The Knicks managed to score only 47 total points after halftime. New York scored just 20 points in the 4th quarter. San Antonio recorded 28 assists on 39 made shots while committing only 8 turnovers.

The game featured a physical and tense atmosphere inside the arena. The tension started when Wembanyama shoved Brunson to the floor with no whistle called on the play.

No Finals team in history has ever featured top two scorers who were both 22 or younger. The Spurs still trail 2-1, but the momentum is in their favor now. New York now has to figure out how to solve a young core that just found its confidence.

Does New York hold the line at home, or did San Antonio just crack the code to win this series?
