Spurs star Victor Wembanyama underwent X-rays after suffering a rib injury on Monday, which came back negative, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania (via Underdog NBA). He’s expected to undergo additional testing, but the team is optimistic the injury is “nothing major.”

Wembanyama exited Monday’s game against Philadelphia after playing 16 minutes in the first half. The Spurs later announced he sustained a left rib contusion, with The Athletic’s Jared Weiss noting the injury occurred after a fall earlier in the game.

Before leaving, Wembanyama was effective in limited action, recording 17 points, five rebounds and three blocks. San Antonio held a plus-seven differential with him on the floor.

His brief appearance could still prove significant.

Because he reached the 16-minute threshold, the game counts toward the NBA’s 65-game minimum for postseason awards eligibility. Wembanyama now needs to hit the 20-minute mark in just one of San Antonio’s final three games to officially qualify.

Assuming he does, he’s considered a strong candidate for Defensive Player of the Year and is widely expected to earn All-NBA honors. He has also received some MVP consideration.
