The 2025-26 NBA season won’t be the same for the Indiana Pacers. With their best player, Tyrese Haliburton, set to miss the entire campaign with a torn Achilles tendon, the Pacers are unlikely to be competitive. Haliburton was injured during Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first quarter. The Pacers were one win away from winning the championship, but lost their All-Star point guard.
This is the first major injury that the former Iowa State guard has sustained. Leading up to Game 7, Haliburton was already playing through injury as he suffered a calf strain. However, with the title on the line, he opted to suit up and continue to play.
For the upcoming 2025-26 season, Haliburton has been ruled out, confirmed by Kevin Pritchard, the Pacers’ president of basketball operations. He’ll use the rest of the year rehabbing from his unfortunate injury.
As he’s rehabbing, Haliburton still took time to appear as a guest on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday. The two-time All-Star revealed that Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant had a wholesome gesture by visiting him as he recovers from the torn Achilles tendon.
“KD actually came and visited me the other day. Came to my house, which was pretty cool. We sat down for a while, just talked. That was pretty cool,” the Indiana Pacers star said.

Like Haliburton, Durant knows what the star point guard is going through. He went on a similar journey in 2019, when he tore his Achilles tendon in the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors.
While most athletes who suffer the injury don’t return as their usual selves, Durant is an exception. The two-time champion was the same elite star when he fully recovered and had a similar impact with the teams he played for.
When Haliburton went down to the floor during Game 7 of the NBA Finals, the replay clearly showed that he suffered a torn Achilles tendon. During his guest appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the Indiana Pacers guard said that he immediately knew what he had injured.
“It’s not the most painful thing, but it does feel like if you let an elementary-aged kid just come up, line you up like a kickball, and just kick you in the back of the leg. That’s what it feels like. So when I went down, I knew right away what had happened,” Haliburton said.
The former Sacramento Kings star said that he was hurt because he wouldn’t be able to play the rest of the game with his teammates. Haliburton said that he had the game locked in on his mind, not thinking about the future.
