The Golden State Warriors have struggled to find consistency early in the 2025–26 NBA season, holding a 13–15 record and in the midst of a three-game losing streak. Jonathan Kuminga has mirrored that inconsistency, with his role fluctuating as he battles injuries.
The 23-year-old forward has dealt with bilateral knee tendinitis and has recently fallen out of head coach Steve Kerr’s rotation in favor of other depth pieces.
Kuminga has averaged 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 43.1% from the field and 32% from beyond the arc across 18 games. His future with Golden State remains uncertain as he struggles to find playing time.
After three straight games in which he did not play due to coach’s decision, Kuminga logged just 10 minutes of action on Thursday in a one-point loss to the Phoenix Suns, failing to make a significant impact. He finished with two points, four rebounds and one assist.
Ahead of Saturday’s rematch with Phoenix, it appears Kuminga has endured another setback. The Warriors announced on their injury report that his status has been updated to questionable due to an illness (h/t Joseph Dycus of Mercury News).

He played 10 minutes, scored 2pts and grabbed 4 rebounds after being a DNP-CD for the three previous games.
Kuminga’s tenure with the Warriors has been defined by flashes of excellence and stretches of uncertainty. Drafted seventh overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, he quickly showcased his elite athleticism and defensive versatility, even contributing to Golden State’s 2022 championship run as a rookie.
Kuminga struggled for much of last season, failing to establish consistency on either end of the floor. His uneven play raised questions about his long-term fit in Golden State and set the stage for an offseason defined by contract negotiations.
This past offseason underscored that tension, as Kuminga’s camp pushed for more contractual control before agreeing to a two-year, $48.5 million deal with a team option.
The structure gives Golden State flexibility while leaving open the possibility of a trade once he becomes eligible in mid-January. League executives view him as a valuable asset, but whether his upside is realized in San Francisco or elsewhere remains a question.
With his role already slipping, the added setback of illness only deepens the sense that Kuminga’s time in Golden State may be running out.
The Warriors host the Suns at 8:30 p.m. ET Saturday.
