Kristaps Porzingis has been on a heater for the Golden State Warriors of late. The former All-Star big man is finally getting his groove following his mid-season blockbuster trade from the Atlanta Hawks. Porzingis has also had to battle through injuries and a lingering illness, but he’s now playing his best basketball as a Warrior.
Over his last four games, the 7-foot-2 center-forward is averaging 22.5 points on 49.1% shooting, 5.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 28.5 minutes per contest. Porzingis is also knocking down 3.0 triples per game on a 50.0% clip.
Thanks in part to Porzingis’ strong play, the Warriors have gone 3-1 in their last four games.
Porzingis’ hot streak, however, will come to an abrupt halt in the Warriors’ next game. Golden State is back in action on Wednesday in a marquee matchup against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.
The bad news for Porzingis is that he will be forced to sit out the game. The Warriors announced on Tuesday via the official injury report that Porzingis has been ruled out due to illness management.
The silver lining here is that Porzingis does not appear to have sustained a new injury. It seems that the Warriors are just giving the Latvian the night off. They play again on Thursday, on the second night of a back-to-back against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Porzingis will join an extensive list of injured Warriors players for Wednesday’s game. However, the big news for Golden State is that Steph Curry is finally set to make his comeback.
After two months out with a knee injury, Curry is targeting to make his long-awaited comeback on Sunday against the Houston Rockets. Curry’s return comes just in time as the Warriors look to improve their standing in the Western Conference.
Golden State is headed to the play-in again this year. They are currently 10th in the West with a 36-39 record. As of writing, the Warriors are 1.5 games behind the ninth-seeded Portland Trail Blazers with seven games remaining in the regular season.
