Warriors Announce Unfortunate News During Lakers Game

The Golden State Warriors were shorthanded yet again heading into Saturday’s home matchup against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. Steph Curry remains out with a lingering knee injury, joining Jimmy Butler (season-ending torn ACL) on the shelf. New center Kristaps Porzingis (illness) also remained out.

The bad news for the Warriors is that they sustained another injury blow in the first half against L.A. This is after rookie shooting guard Will Richard suffered an ankle injury early in the game. The medical staff checked on Richard in the locker room and quickly determined his status for the rest of the contest.

Richard is coming off a big game. He started on Wednesday, helping lead Golden State to a 133-112 blowout win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Richard registered 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting, to go along with five rebounds, six assists, three steals and two triples in 30 minutes of action.

Richard, however, was limited to just five minutes on Saturday. Not long after he left the Lakers game, the Warriors provided an update on the 23-year-old's injury.

Golden State announced the unfortunate news via social media.

“Will Richard (right ankle sprain) will not return to tonight’s game,” Warriors PR posted on X.

This is another tough blow for Golden State’s already depleted backcourt. With Richard sidelined, guys like Gary Payton II and Pat Spencer will need to step up to fill the void. Richard finished Saturday’s contest with four points, one rebound and a block.

The Warriors have not revealed the full details of Richard’s sprained right ankle. At this point, the severity of the injury is unknown.

Golden State is scheduled to return to action on Monday in a home game against the Los Angeles Clippers. For now, Richard’s status for that matchup is uncertain.
