Warriors Could Eye Potential Buyout Target After Latest Blockbuster Trade

The Golden State Warriors have long been connected to Al Horford as a potential solution to their frontcourt woes. However, after a major trade just went down on Monday morning, they may have another option to add to their list.

Shams Charania announced on Twitter/X this morning, "The [Los Angeles] Clippers, [Utah] Jazz and [Miami] Heat have agreed to a trade that sends Norman Powell to Miami, John Collins to Los Angeles, and Kevin Love, Kyle Anderson and a 2027 Clippers second-round pick to the Jazz, sources tell ESPN."

Charania added, "Miami is acquiring a major scoring punch in Powell while the Clippers find a dynamic lob threat. Both Powell and Collins are coming off strong seasons. Utah has turned Collins' expiring deal into an asset in the form of a second-rounder in return."

Collins and Powell will get settled into their new environments and should be expected to play considerable roles for their respective teams. However, the same cannot be said of everyone involved in this deal.

The futures of Love and Anderson in Utah both immediately become questionable upon this trade being finalized. The veteran big man, in particular, stands out as a buyout candidate.

Jake Fischer immediately thought the same thing when the trade took place. The NBA insider delivered a statement on Twitter/X after the deal went down.

Fischer wrote, "Kevin Love is certainly a buyout candidate in Utah."

For a frontcourt-starved Warriors team, the developing situation with Love is worth monitoring. The former championship-winning big man is past his best days, but not without value entirely.

Love is still a capable floor-spacing option after all of these years. The former Heat big shot 35.8 percent from distance in 2024-25.

Love only appeared in 23 games for Miami last year, averaging 10.9 minutes per game. At the very least, the Warriors could have an excellent mentor out of this situation for someone like Quinten Post, should they pursue a signing here.
