The Boston Celtics may look to save money this offseason. Being above the NBA's second tax apron will have consequences if they're above it for three straight years. That could mean someone like Kristaps Porzingis could be on a new team this coming season.
Porzingis will make $30.7 million for the 2025-26 season, and his contract is set to expire. Even if he has an extensive rap sheet of prolonged absences, his expiring deal will be appealing to trade partners.
One potential trade partner is the Golden State Warriors, who had a second-half resurgence following the acquisition of Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline. Their fatal flaw was their weak frontcourt depth, which Porzingis could help with.
ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel revealed that the Warriors could very well try to get Porzingis again this offseason. However, there is a caveat that may stop them from trading with the Celtics.
"The Golden State Warriors have long been viewed as a potential destination for Porzingis before he even joined Boston in 2023," Siegel wrote. "It is no secret to anyone that the Warriors will be seeking immediate frontcourt production. Since he doesn't carry any long-term financial restraints, Porzingis could fill an immediate gap next to Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler."
A big offseason full of major trade decisions approaches for Brad Stevens and the Celtics.

Beyond whatever assets the Celtics would demand back, the Warriors face a real decision on whether to gamble on Porzingis' health. This remains a question mark going forward.
Siegel added, "This fit makes sense, but Porzingis' health is the top concern many teams share at this time."
The Celtics will want to save as much money as possible in any trades this offseason. The Warriors have the contracts to match for Porzingis, but have to decide if he is worth the risk.
