There will be many key decisions to make this offseason for the Golden State Warriors as they try to retool their roster into a championship contending one for next season.
Of course, the Warriors looked like a contender in the second half of the season after adding Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline to pair alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
Disaster then struck in the second round for Golden State as Curry suffered an injury in Game 1 of their series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, who would eventually eliminate them in five games.
Now the Warriors will look to build around their aging core to chase a title next season but they also have a key decision to make regarding their young forward Jonathan Kuminga.
Kuminga is set to be a restricted free agent this summer and after falling out of Golden State’s lineup at the end of the season, his future with the franchise is now in question.
Because of this, many believe the Warriors will sign-and-trade him this offseason and there should be many trade suitors targeting him.
Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz recently named Kuminga as a dream offseason trade target for the Brooklyn Nets, and for good reason.
Brooklyn has been interested in Kuminga for a while now and this offseason is their best chance to land the young forward from Golden State via a sign-and-trade, though they could also offer him a large enough contract that the Warriors would be unwilling to match.
Either way, Kuminga would become an immediate part of Brooklyn’s rotation if they were able to acquire him this summer and that would allow him to continue to develop into a potential future star, something that the Warriors have limited during his career.
Despite this, there should be many teams interested in adding Kuminga to their roster in the offseason so it could become a bidding war if the Warriors do end up moving on from him.
