Warriors' Future Draft Pick Ranked Among NBA’s Most Valuable Trade Assets

The Golden State Warriors have had an interesting offseason that has been dominated by the ongoing saga between them and restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga.

Kuminga has reportedly turned down Golden State’s contract offer and while other teams have offered him a contract as well, they have failed to meet the Warriors’ high asking price that would allow them to acquire the young forward via a sign-and-trade.

While the Warriors continue to wait for Kuminga’s situation to dissolve, they have already missed out on multiple top free agent targets and they have yet to make any additions to their roster outside of the 2025 draft.

Because of this, the Warriors have hurt their chances of competing for a championship next season behind their star trio of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green.

While the Warriors have failed to make any moves this offseason, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley recently listed their 2028 first-round pick as one of the top trade assets in the NBA and it is a valuable one that they could use to bring in more talent to their roster.

“By the 2027-28 campaign, all that's left on the books will be the final year of Moses Moody's contract and a player option for Buddy Hield. This club could completely bottom out, and the chance of that happening locks this pick onto the list,” Buckley wrote.

Buckley made it key to point out that the only players the Warriors will have under contract during the 2027-28 campaign is Moody, and possibly Hield, as Curry, Butler and Green’s contract will be up.

Because of this, Golden State’s 2028 first-round pick is extremely valuable to many teams around the league as the Warriors may be completely out of playoff contention with their stars likely entering retirement.

Due to that, it would be smart for the Warriors to make sure that they keep this pick but if they want to be a title contender over the next few seasons with their core, they will likely have to move it to upgrade their roster, which could hurt them in the future despite being a beneficial asset now.
