Warriors' Jimmy Butler Sued After Being Traded From Miami Heat

When Jimmy Butler was traded from the Miami Heat to the Golden State Warriors, he seemed to have burned a lot of bridges on the way out. He and Pat Riley, who previously had a great relationship, seemed to be on the outs, and the way he demanded a trade rubbed some fans the wrong way.

Off the court and outside the organization, it seems like others have set their sights on Butler, as a recent report reveals that he is being sued by a Miami-based property management company.

In November 2022, Butler signed a two-year lease for a beach house owned by Five Star Marketing and Promotions. Rent was steep, costing $130,00 per month, and he allegedly damaged the property and overstayed his lease by two months.

"Additionally, the lawsuit alleges Butler left the property in disrepair," reported Local 10 News. "Court documents also allege Butler caused $125,000 in damages, including mold issues, damaged drywall and flooring, an unmaintained pool, and a malfunctioning HVAC system. The lawsuit further claims Butler changed the locks and denied the property owner access for inspections."

Now, one can argue that mold, flooring damage, and pool maintenance could fall on the owner, not the tenant, but the details of the lease agreement have not yet been disclosed, so perhaps the responsibility fell on Butler. It's hard to justify him overstaying his lease, and he is being sued for $257,282 after losing his $130,000 security deposit.

As Butler keeps searching for somewhere to live in the Bay Area, this lawsuit might make finding a rental harder than originally thought.
