Warriors’ Jimmy Butler teases future talks after Stephen Curry injury ruins playoffs

With the Golden State Warriors eliminated from the playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves in frustrating fashion, losing in five games, there’s no doubt fans are wondering about the team’s future. While Stephen Curry’s injury with the Warriors ruined any chances at a possible run, relatively new addition Jimmy Butler speaks on talking with his teammates about the future.

As Curry was on the back burner, Butler would be the No. 1 option for the team as it came out to middling results, unable to show the famous “Playoff Jimmy,” which was on display for the Miami Heat. Butler would be asked about when talks happen with himself, Curry, and Draymond Green about the immediate future.

“That’s a good question. That is a very good question,” Butler said to the media in his post-game press conference, according to 97.5 The Game. “Maybe on the plane, I don’t know. For sure, sometime this summer, but when it happens, it will happen.”

When Butler initially arrived in Golden State, he brought a major boost to the team, leading them to playoff contention, but he would work well with Curry. Butler spoke about playing without Curry on the floor and how that changed everything.

“Obviously it’s very different when we don’t have Steph on the floor,” Butler said via video from X, formerly Twitter, user @ohnohedidnt24. “I feel like everybody has to take on more and everybody has to play a little bit of a different role, but that’s just the game. Injuries happen, but it is a lot different with Steph not out there.”

Warriors believe they could’ve gone far with Jimmy Butler, Stephen Curry

Though the Warriors series loss was a gut punch to the players involved, there is confidence that if Curry was healthy, the team would have gone far and had a shot to beat the surging Timberwolves. The same sentiments would be echoed by Golden State head coach Steve Kerr, saying they could have “gone the distance,” according to The Athletic.

“I know we had a shot. I know we could’ve gone the distance,” Kerr said. “Maybe we wouldn’t have. It doesn’t matter. Again, everything in the playoffs is about who stays healthy and who gets hot.

“Are you playing well at the right time? Do you have multiple guys step up in key games, make shots, and do you have good health? You see it every year in every series. There’s a little bit of luck involved, you know, and we’ve been on both sides of that.”

Butler, Curry, Green, and others look to redeem themselves next season.
