The Golden State Warriors are moving forward without Kristaps Porzingis as they prepare to face the Orlando Magic on Saturday. The center has yet to play this season because of an undisclosed health issue, leaving his future with the franchise uncertain.
Golden State acquired Porzingis from the Atlanta Hawks in February and re-signed him to a two-year, $40 million contract during the offseason. He played 15 games for the Warriors after the trade, averaging 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
Porzingis announced Friday that he is stepping away from basketball to prioritize his health. He also said he intends to work with the Warriors to find a solution that makes sense, without describing his decision as retirement.
The 31-year-old wrote on X that his body had not responded as he expected while preparing for the season, noting that he was doing well but was not physically ready to perform at the level he demands of himself.
The Warriors have now responded to Porzingis’ decision ahead of Saturday’s game against Orlando. ClutchPoints’ Kenzo Fukuda reported Saturday that Porzingis’ locker has been cleared out, with his nameplate removed and the belongings that had been there no longer present.

Porzingis has been away from the team since late September. He missed training camp and the preseason because of the health issue, and the Warriors announced on Oct. 14 that he would remain out indefinitely. The team later said it did not expect him to be around the facility in the immediate future.
Porzingis has previously disclosed that he was diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), a condition that can cause symptoms including rapid heartbeat and fatigue. However, he has not confirmed whether the condition is connected to his current health problems.
The Warriors have won six consecutive games despite his absence. They host Orlando on Saturday as they continue their season without the center, while the franchise and Porzingis work toward a resolution.
