Already one week deep into the NBA offseason, LeBron James’ future continues to dominate the conversations. And as things stand, the Golden State Warriors are reportedly waiting in the background if one major situation changes.
According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, the Warriors would have serious interest in pursuing James if contract negotiations with the Los Angeles Lakers were to unexpectedly break down. For now, however, Golden State reportedly believes the four-time NBA champion will ultimately remain in Los Angeles.
That belief appears to be shaping the Warriors’ current offseason approach.
“If negotiations between James and the Los Angeles Lakers break down — and if James goes searching for a new home for his 24th NBA season — the Warriors are a willing suitor, team sources said,” Slater wrote via ESPN.
The Warriors are prepared to pursue LeBron James, if the Lakers allow him to hit free agency, per @anthonyVslater.

However, the possibility of pairing the Akron-born veteran forward with Stephen Curry has long been viewed as one of the NBA’s dream scenarios. While it still remains unlikely, the Bay Area team is reportedly prepared to explore the opportunity if James and the Lakers fail to reach an agreement.
The Warriors could open access to the full $15.1 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception, creating a pathway to make an offer if James were to hit the open market. According to Slater, Golden State would also likely involve Curry in recruitment efforts and could structure a deal with a player option to make the situation more appealing.
Still, the biggest obstacle remains the Lakers themselves. NBA insider Brian Windhorst recently reported that negotiations between James and Los Angeles are already ongoing. And it might be too soon to make any judgment.
LeBron James’ free agency could end up impacting far more than just the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors. As recent rumors hint, it may also shape Bronny James’ future.
According to LakeShowLife’s Tyler Watts, any move involving LeBron could quickly involve Bronny as well.
“The Warriors reportedly had interest in Bronny during the 2024 draft,” Watts wrote. “They ultimately passed after Paul told teams that LeBron’s son would play in Australia if he didn’t end up with the Lakers. They would have no issues trading for Bronny if it meant getting LeBron.”
That possibility would allow father and son to remain teammates if LeBron decided to leave Los Angeles for Golden State. The Lakers reportedly still want James back, although reports suggest the organization hopes he will accept less money on his next deal to help improve roster flexibility. According to Watts, however, LeBron’s camp would only support a reduced salary if it directly helped build a legitimate championship contender.
For Golden State, though, adding Bronny could simply become part of the larger equation if it ever gets a realistic opportunity to pursue LeBron alongside Stephen Curry.
