The Boston Celtics did not repeat as NBA Champions in 2025. Not only that, but now they enter the offseason with questions regarding what they'll do with their roster.
The Celtics have one of the most expensive rosters in the NBA, and are projected to cross the league's second tax apron for the third straight season. They can prevent that if they cut costs in the offseason. That might happen with Jayson Tatum out indefinitely and Jaylen Brown potentially out too.
The question will be which players Boston will trade to get under the NBA's second tax apron.
Before the New York Knicks eliminated the Celtics in the playoffs, Logan Murdock revealed that the Golden State Warriors are keeping tabs on one Celtics star during his appearance on The Zach Lowe Show.
"Another guy that I think you should look at for the Warriors going forward is Derrick White," Murdock said. "A guy like that. I think that's something the Warriors are looking at right now because Boston's expected in league circles to have some sort of fire sale or some sort of maybe reset."

If the Cs get a Mikal Bridges type offer for Derrick then MAYBE they move him. I personally think they keep him. And the Warriors don’t have that type of package imo. pic.twitter.com/XeIF3lSh1I
The Warriors could match contracts for White, but the Celtics want to save money this offseason, and Golden State doesn't have players on partially or completely non-guaranteed contracts for the 2025-26 season. Not to mention the Celtics would likely demand plenty of draft capital for White.
White will start the first year of a four-year, $118 million contract. Since coming to Boston, White has established himself as one of the better two-way guards in the NBA. The Celtics may trade away some players to save money, but it's hard to see White being one of them.
