Warriors rebuffed 76ers’ Brandin Podziemski trade efforts

The Golden State Warriors are currently looking for ways to improve this offseason after their second play-in tournament exit in three years this past season. The Warriors are reportedly open to trading the number 11 pick they were recently awarded in the NBA lottery, and the team already reiterated its commitment to winning now by re-signing head coach Steve Kerr to a new two-year deal.

Now, a recent report involving the Philadelphia 76ers shows how the Warriors shut down a trade that would have involved guard Brandin Podziemski.

“Among other players the source said the Sixers made runs at, unsuccessfully: Naji Marshall of the Dallas Mavericks, Donte DiVincenzo of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Brandon Podziemski of the Golden State Warriors and Ryan Dunn of the Phoenix Suns. None of those players were moved,” reported Adam Aaronson of The Philly Voice.

Podziemski has been somewhat of a polarizing player in the Bay Area during his time there. He had a strong rookie season in 2023-24, but seems to have plateaued since then, with some fans accusing Kerr of giving him an unnecessarily high amount of minutes relative to his skill level.

Podziemski himself has made some wild claims in the media about how he sees his role on the team, which has only added to some of the vitriol, and it’s unclear what exactly it was that the 76ers offered from him that the Warriors turned down. However, for now, the third-year guard seems to be part of the long-term plan in Golden State, unless they find themselves needing to package him in a trade this summer.

In any case, the Warriors will now turn their attention to the upcoming NBA Draft, which is slated to get underway on June 23.
