On Thursday night, the Brooklyn Nets will return home and take on the Golden State Warriors for the second and final time this season. Both teams met up on November 25 in a game that culminated in an eight-point victory for Brooklyn. The Warriors are a completely different team now, however, after landing Jimmy Butler ahead of the trade deadline.
The Warriors have lost just two of their last 11 games and are on a two-game winning streak. As they prepare for their game against Brooklyn, however, head coach Steve Kerr made a major announcement on fourth-year forward Jonathan Kuminga.
Due to an ankle injury, Kuminga has been out of action for Golden State since January 4. On the year, he has only appeared in 32 games. According to Kerr, Kuminga will not return against the Nets. Furthermore, Kerr said that Kuminga's injury was worse than they initially thought.
"I think as it turned out, JK's injury was more of a setback than we realized in the beginning. He's working hard, he's working every day. He had a really good workout today. We feel like he's getting close, but you just got to do the right thing and that's what we're all trying to do."
Before his injury, Kuminga was in the midst of a potential career year. This season, he is averaging 16.8 points, 5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. W
While the Warriors are still finding success with the 22-year-old on the sidelines, it is fair to assume that they want him back on the court as soon as possible. With a little over a month remaining on the season, the Warriors are looking like potential title contenders once again and will need all the reinforcements they can get.
