The Golden State Warriors have been doubling down on trying to rekindle their dynastic days, recently re-signing head coach Steve Kerr to a new deal. Kerr and the Warriors are coming off a frustrating 2025-26 season that saw them lose in the play-in tournament to the Phoenix Suns.
Although he’s won four championships during his tenure in the Bay Area, Kerr recently gave himself a dose of reality regarding his performance during the 2025-26 season.
“I didn’t have a great year,” he said, per NBC Sports Bay Area “Dubs Talk” podcast, via Monte Poole. “I think coaches are similar to players. You have years that are better than others, you have years that are worse than others.”
Kerr has drawn some criticisms from the fanbase in recent years for his seeming inability to balance the development of some of Golden State’s younger players with the desire to get the most out of his aging stars, headlined by Stephen Curry.
Many have blamed him for the failed experiment of Jonathan Kuminga, and have theorized that his strange affinity for Brandin Podziemski may have helped Klay Thompson make up his mind to depart the franchise two summers ago.
Still, there’s no doubting the overall success that Kerr has had at the helm with the Warriors, helping turn the team from a promising young squad into an undisputed dynasty in the mid-2010s, and getting them back to their championship heights once again in 2022.
With some considerable assets and cap room at their disposal this summer, it will be interesting to see how the Warriors front office goes about reconstructing the roster in order to give Kerr the best team to help mold.
