Steph Curry will play in the Golden State Warriors’ season finale on Sunday night. It’s the final game of the regular season for the entire NBA, and Golden State gets to face the Los Angeles Clippers on the road for their 82nd and final game of the campaign.
The Warriors have been ramping Curry up since his return from injury on April 5. The two-time NBA scoring champion missed two months of action due to a knee injury, but has since been able to return ahead of the play-in tournament.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr provided an update on Curry ahead of tip-off against the Clippers.
Curry has been on a minutes limit since his return. The Warriors want him to get his rhythm and conditioning back, but are also taking a very cautious approach. In fact, Curry sat out Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers due to injury management.
The good news for Curry is that he will see an uptick in playing time on Sunday. Kerr announced before the game that he sees the former back-to-back MVP playing up to 30 minutes against the Clippers.
This is a significant development for Curry, who has not played more than 27 minutes in his three games back from injury. He’s averaging 31.0 minutes per game this season, and based on Kerr’s pregame update, Curry will get close to a full load on Sunday.
The Warriors will need Curry to be at his best for the play-in tournament, which starts on Wednesday. As the No. 10 seed in the West, Golden State will need to win two games on the road in order to secure the No. 8 seed in the NBA playoffs.
Curry and Co. will face either the Clippers or the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday in the first game of the play-in.
