Warriors Trade For Dennis Schroder From Nets In Exchange For De'Anthony Melton And Three Second-Round Picks

The NBA trade deadline is still weeks away but the Golden State Warriors are wasting no time searching for some help for Stephen Curry. In the latest rumblings, ESPN's Shams Charania revealed that they have struck a deal for Dennis Schroder and second-round draft picks for De'Anthony Melton and three second-round picks.

"The Brooklyn Nets are finalizing a deal to send guard Dennis Schroder and one second-round pick to the Golden State Warriors for De'Anthony Melton and three second-round picks, sources told ESPN," wrote Shams on X. "A dynamic playmaker and scorer arriving to the Warriors."

December 15th (tomorrow) starts the NBA's unofficial trade season. That's the day 85 free agents signed this offseason will be eligible to be traded, including Brooklyn's Dennis Schroder. The 31-year-old guard signed with the Nets this summer but now he's set to join the Warriors to begin the next phase of his career.

Schroder, who was born in Braunschweig, Germany, is a quick and versatile point guard who can score on a dime and run the offense with his tight handles. While Schroder has come off the bench for much of his career, he's a starter for the Nets this year with averages of 18.4 points, 6.6 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game on 45.2% shooting.

The Nets had no concrete plans to separate from Schroder but now it's rumored that both he and Ben Simmons are on the trade block as the Nets shift toward a rebuild. While he may not be the best guy available, Schroder has the potential to be a great addition to the Warriors, who are in desperate need of reinforcements.

Another great season for Stephen Curry and Draymond Green has kept the Warriors afloat in the standings but at 14-10 (5th in the West) it's fair to say that there's plenty of room for improvement. Specifically, the Warriors need some reinforcements off the bench, to keep the team functional when Steph is out of the lineup.

Schroder has made various stops over his NBA career, including with the Atlanta Hawks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Boston Celtics, and Los Angeles Lakers -- but he has yet to make a title run. As a Warrior, this may be his best chance yet to make a difference on a title-contending team.

All it took for the W arriors was a first-round pick, which they don't need anyway given that their priority is maximizing Stephen Curry's career. With Schroder, they have some depth in the backcourt and someone who can also play with Curry to add scoring and make plays with the ball.

Only time will tell how the trade works out for the sides involved but it'll likely be the first of many to come this season. Now that the floodgates are open, many teams will be looking to make a move and improve their roster in any way they can before the dreaded mid-season grind from January to February.

After losing their chance for the NBA Emirates championship, the Warriors have some time off and it will give Schroder plenty of time to clear his physical and make the transition to  Golden State. With a game set tomorrow, against the the Dallas Mavericks at Chase Center, we probably won't see Schroder in the lineup until December 19th against the Memphis Grizzlies at 8:00 PM EST at FedExForum.
