Warriors' underwhelming offseason keeps fueling Steph Curry speculation

The Golden State Warriors should be considered one of the biggest losers of the NBA offseason.

General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. didn't land a single outside free agent, and he only managed to re-sign some of his aging veterans.

A roster with not many shooters besides Steph Curry and expensive players past their prime may not have what it takes to pursue a championship.

According to Nick Friedell of The Athletic, that has prompted league-wide speculation about whether Curry will eventually request a trade away from the Bay Area.

"Now, a few months later, with little improvement to the roster, the league wonders whether Curry’s mindset will change," Friedell wrote. "Speculation continues from both fans and the media that Curry may become so frustrated that he eventually asks out during the final year or two of his career."

That said, Friedell also reports that it's hard to envision any scenario where Curry actually asks out.

He's reportedly in sync with the front office and has been aware of their unsuccessful attempts to improve the roster.

Curry is still a top-10 player in the league, and the Warriors will always be a team to look out for when he's out there and healthy.

However, he's not getting any younger, and he's coming off an injury-riddled season.

If anything, he should be leaning on other players to make another championship run. Instead, the front office continues to fail in every attempt to improve his supporting cast, mostly due to their reluctance to jeopardize the future.

They've been trying to keep assets to stay competitive for the post-Curry era for the past five years or so, and while that makes sense to a degree, they seem to ignore the fact that Curry won't go anywhere in the near future.
