NBA insider reveals why Stephen Curry exit hype refuses to go away

Writing for The Athletic, NBA insider Nick Friedell has acknowledged that all the speculation surrounding Curry’s future continues to grow despite the point guard’s passionate public commitment to the Warriors.

Friedell wrote: “Speculation continues from both fans and the media that Curry may become so frustrated that he eventually asks out.”

However, the veteran reporter also stressed that such a scenario remains difficult to picture given everything Curry has said throughout his career. But in sports you still never know.

The 38-year-old has consistently spoken about wanting to finish his career with one franchise and has repeatedly expressed his love for the Bay Area. Even so, it is important to note that his last NBA title came back in 2022.

And the fact that the discussion continues to surface again and again highlights the uncertainty surrounding Golden State after another disappointing campaign.

The Warriors finished 37-45 last season, placing 10th in the Western Conference, and have yet to significantly strengthen a roster that already appeared short of championship quality.

Moreover, they averaged 114.6 points (22nd in the NBA), 42.3 rebounds (21st), and 28.9 assists (6th) per game, while allowing 115.2 points defensively.

Warriors’ hunt for the right support around Curry continues

Warriors’ front office have been trying their best, they have not been short of ambition in recent years.

They pursued LeBron this summer after previously exploring several other superstar opportunities, but came away empty-handed.

Now this leaves Curry carrying much of the offensive burden entering what will be his 18th NBA season.

Aside from selecting Lendeborg, the Warriors have largely kept the same core together, increasing the pressure on Curry to once again lead the franchise.

Despite the outside noise, Curry’s own comments suggest he remains focused on helping the Warriors navigate a difficult period rather than looking for a way out.

According to The Athletic, the former NBA MVP recently admitted he is being “a realist” about the team’s current situation, while understanding that injuries and roster challenges have changed expectations while maintaining belief that the organisation can work through them together.

For now, there is little to suggest Curry is actively considering ending his long association with the Warriors.

However, if Golden State struggle again and fail to convince their franchise star that another title challenge is realistic, questions about his long-term future are unlikely to disappear anytime soon.
