Lakers star LeBron James has a new ink to commemorate his experience at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he served as the U.S. flag bearer for the opening ceremony and clinched a gold medal.
Earlier this week, tattoo artist Joaquin Ganga shared a video on social media of James getting a tattoo of the five Olympic rings on his left forearm.
"Tattooing the Olympic rings for the king @kingjames Thank you for all bro," Ganga wrote.
The same artist had previously inked a tattoo on James with the text "Mamba 4 Life" to pay homage to the late Kobe Bryant.
The 2024 Paris Olympics marked the fourth instance of James participating in the Olympiad and the third time he grabbed a gold medal. The 39-year-old is not expected to play in the 2028 Los Angeles Games, meaning the Paris Games potentially marked his farewell from the global stage.
It's why James was particularly emotional during the Paris Olympics experience and even more so as he got to share the court with contemporary greats Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant for the first time.
In a recent interview with "GoJo and Golic," James dubbed the Paris experience as "super unique" as he found himself on the same page with people he battled in the NBA for the last decade.
"To play alongside Steve Kerr, who I had a lot of battles with over the years. Then getting to reunite with my former coaches in Erik Spoelstra and Tyronn Lue, it was an unbelievable summer," James admitted. "We dubbed ourselves the Avengers and we had to make it happen, and we were able to bring home Gold to represent USA with the utmost red, white and blue respect."
James enters the 2024-25 NBA season after signing a two-year contract with the Lakers this offseason. The star forward could become a free agent again in 2025, fueling chatter of his impending retirement.
In the meantime, James is set to make history as part of the first father-son duo to play as teammates in the NBA after the Lakers drafted his son, Bronny, with the 55th overall pick in this year's draft.
