West postseason seeding chase going right down to wire

Out West, there’s still something real on the line at the very top.

The Spurs are chasing. The Thunder are holding firm. And somehow, entering the final week of the regular season, it’s still not over.

Oklahoma City leads by three games with four to play, but San Antonio owns the tiebreaker and just won’t go away. The Spurs have been on a tear (27-3 since February), the kind of run that usually locks things up. Problem is, the Thunder haven’t blinked either.

Since Shai Gilgeous-Alexander returned, they’re 17-1. That’s not a run. That’s a statement. Still, there’s a wrinkle.

The Nuggets might decide all of this. Denver just beat San Antonio in an overtime thriller and still has games left against both contenders — hosting OKC, then closing at San Antonio. So yeah, the Nuggets are right in the middle of the No. 1 seed race, whether they like it or not.

Now flip down the bracket a little, and things get even messier.

The Lakers were cruising. Then came the injuries.

Luka Doncic is out indefinitely. Austin Reaves is done for the regular season. And just like that, a team that looked dangerous now looks… vulnerable.

Can they hold onto home court? Maybe. Can they flip the switch if those guys return for Game 1? That’s a tougher ask.

Meanwhile, the Rockets and Timberwolves are sitting right there at five and six — and could end up deciding their order head-to-head on April 10.

So yeah, the West isn’t settled. Not at the top. Not in the middle. Not anywhere, really.

And that’s exactly how you want it heading into the final week.
