What Are Opponents Saying About Thibs?
Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

Tom Thibodeau has been a coach in the NBA since the 1980s. He's seen the rise and fall of some of the greatest dynasties in league history.

He's also been the architect of some historical teams and players over the years. As an assistant, he helped the Boston Celtics win a championship in 2008 while helping the Knicks reach the Finals in the late '90s.

It's his work as a head coach, though, that has shown Thibodeau's true skill as a basketball mind. And it's something players and coaches alike respect from him.

“He really puts the work in. He’s always in the gym, always watching film," Hornets forward Taj Gibson said. “I’m sure, for instance, even when he’s in the hotel, he’s doing movements in the hotel to try to emulate what’s going to happen with the screen and roll. He’s one of those gurus. He really pays attention to detail.”

As a head coach, Thibodeau has compiled a 539-397 record for the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Knicks. He's won six playoff series - two with New York, as he strives to be a key reason why his team hoists the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

But the crux of what makes Thibodeau a good coach with the Knicks currently is the fact that his players are at the forefront of their success.

As it always should be.

“It comes down to the players at the end of the day. You can throw in different offenses, but the players have to be the ones that are running the offense and making the right plays," Gibson said. “They’ve got guys that are making the right plays.”
